L.B. Lathrop biography

"Lucian B. Lathrop... moved from there [Vermont] to Pike, Allegany Co. NY. He was engaged in hotel keeping and acted as deputy sheriff for 12 years. He came to Ohio in 1834, purchasing land from the government in Richfield township, Lucas Co. Ohio. He established a home in the wilderness with neighbors no nearer than four miles. In 1848 he moved to the villiage of Sylvania.... Lucian B. erected the first frame barn in Richfield Twp. in 1837. He was trustee and treasurer of the township and the first postmaster at Berkey, Ohio where for fifteen years there was a weekly mail. In 1841 he was a delegate to the Democratic State Convention. In 1852 he was elected a representative to the Ohio State Legislature.... He was ordained a minister of the Universalist Church and preached for ten years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was Worshipful Master in 1856 taking office on October 23. In 1848 he was one of the promoters of the Toledo and Indiana plank road, one of the most noted roads in history and said to be the first plank road in Ohio..."
